oh that darned elusive chord. the event requires 2 guitars a bass and a piano. no other way to achieve it. Martins was so crafty wasn’t he?

  • YJWoadWarrior:

    You related to the Hulkster?

  • hotshot221293:

i reckon you’re right. he was fantastic, but its a bit too simplified.

what a bone idle presentation… more of a promo for a website than a lesson that could really help anyone. that was gay

First off, John did not play the opening chord; George did, on a 1963 Rickenbacker 360-12 12 string electric guitar. Trivia: George’s Ric was serial #2, #1 I really played at the now defunct Guitar Gallery in Pasadena, CA. It currently is owned by a Japanese collector……#1, NOT George Harrison’s.
I have spent over 20 years in as bass player in various Beatle Tribute bands, some original cast members of Beatlemania and no offense, your chord sounds really incorrect. Research again and post

After my recent comment I just wanted to say that the chords provided in this lesson are basically right. With a small bit of tweaking, you’ll get it. Also…just to be clear….First finger, first fret, B string, (C note)…In the near future I’m going to post a lesson of my own on how to play this song in it’s entirety. Keep an eye out. Thanks…..

The opening chord is incorrect. If you look at any live Beatle video, you can clearly see that John was playing some kind of open F based chord. Here it is: First finger, first fret, second string (c note). Second finger, second fret, G string (A note). Small finger, third fret, high E string (G note). Thumb, first fret, low E string. (F note). Leave the A & D strings open. Mystery solved! Keep your pinky on the high G note while playing the C & F chords during the song. Thanks!!!

You can play the opening chord differently. It sounds a couple keys lower though.

    Thank you, Neil.
Yours is the only right tutorial of this song on the net.
    The inversion is perfect.

    You nailed it.

  • paipaifish:

I read that the lead part was really George Martin on a harpsichord/or some kind of organ (he also wrote the part completely himself)….now whether there was a 12-string overdub, I don’t know as far as the record. Performed live it was obviously just the guitar.

No it was an F/B chord. George Harrison said it was it on an interview just before he died.
