Hi im left handed and want to play guitar should i learn left or right?

I bought a left handed guitar but its so hard to get lessons because they have to teach me upside down and i keep getting frustrated and quitting.I cant play right because it just feels incorrect and im uncoordinated with that hand.

Try using a right handed guitar, then choose which is more comfy…

Check it out man… music is all about feel, so you should play but it FEELS best. If you want to play left-handed, if that’s what feels most comfortable to you, then do it! Being left-handed didn’t stop Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain, and man, it shouldn’t stop you. Any brilliant guitar teacher should be able to sit directly in front of you with a guitar and act nearly like a mirror… that way, you can clearly see exactly where to place your fingers just by mirroring your teacher. Also, a brilliant way to learn before you really learn how to read sheet music is to pick up some tablatures. It’s all numbered by fret, so you know exactly where each note is, and the best part: it’s universal! So play left handed if that’s what feels best and have a blast!

I’d advise going righty. There are more options in guitars and leftys cost more. Guitar isn’t really a ‘handed’ instrument anyway, both hands have a lot going on.
If you’re already playing lefty it might be hard to re-learn, if you stay lefty most guitars can be converted by changing a few components (Jimi, Cobain did it).

here is a suggestion: you learn it the right way because a)you can learn normally and B) if you work hard enough you will have extra control over your fretboard go ments since you are left handed. heard of stanley jordan? check him out and see what he could do with the left hand. also jimi hendrix did not know which was the right way and he just started the left handed way, so you could do the opposite for yourself. either way you have to work hard and be patient, it will come.

I’m a left handed guitar player too and I chose to stick with the lefties way. It is harder to learn from other people this way but reading music and tabs is no different so once you learn your basics it’s not so terrible. Plus you can say you’re a lefty like Jimi Hendrix was : )
But seriously, stick with what feels more comfortable because once you learn the basics and keep practising you’ll be on your way..it seems like forever learning the basics cause you just want to be able to bust out songs straight away but learning the right techniques is crucial and once you get this it all seems to flow..so practise practise practise…

LOOK AT PAUL MC CARNY HE CAN PLAY LEFT HANDED AND RIGHT HANDED AND HE IS DAM Brilliant AT IT. THAT IS ONE OF THE THINGS JOHN LENIN RELLY LIKED ABOUT PAUL THE 1ST.TIME THAY MET HOPE THIS HELPS !

  • babyforpree:

im left handed too and tryed it both ways and ill tell you it was a lot simpler to do it left even though it may be tough to get an electric thats lefty…but you can use lots of regular acoustic guitars just rearrange the strings.
just reckon of it this way…
jimi hendrix was a lefty and he cant be touched….brilliant luck

Just play the way you feel most comfortable if you pick up a right handed guitar and that feels comfortable play like that i’m a lefty myself and find playing left-handed and right-handed guitar comfortable to play

  • lakefrontblues:

If I was in your position I would just buy a right handed guitar and learn it that way. If you are have distress learning, it may just make it simpler with having to read chord diagrams and/ or tablature.

Don’t get discouraged. I play several instruments, and from experience I can say that what you need to do is just practice practice practice.
