I am interested in learning how to play the electric guitar, is it beter to learn the acoustic first?

Can I just start off learning the electic guitar or would it be simpler to start with an acoustic?

It would be much simpler to learn first with an acoustic guitar.

Yes, you can start with electric guitar.

For me, starting with electric guitar is simpler because nearly everything you’ll play is just power chords, barre chords (which is simple on an electric), strumming and palm muting among many other simple stuff. This is what you’ll be doing if you will play rhythm guitar and the songs are from the punk or alternative rock genres. I learned this before I learned how to play acoustic guitar.

Some people may say that it’s simpler to start with acoustic, but it’s just for them. It varies from person to person, depending on musical taste.

    Acoustic.
The heavier style needed to play acoustic will make the switch to electric so much simpler later on.
You’ll be able to practice anytime and anywhere without needing a power point or amp.
One answer here suggests to start with electric as he playes power chords and palm mutes. This is all brilliant if that’s the only style you want to play. Rhythm is essential to learn as is scales and chords. All this can be done on an acoustic.
If you want to plug in then I’d suggest an electric acoustic.

Hi Gary, like everyone suggested, it would be better to start with a 6 string acoustic guitar. if you need some tips on the best acoustic guitars, you can refer to this article: http://www.toptenservices.net/2009/12/20/top-ten-acoustic-guitars/
I started learning on the Fender DG8S guitar, it is pretty brilliant and if finely tuned, produces very brilliant sound. It is a 6 string acoustic guitar and well within affordable range, but if you can spend a small more, Aria AD-28 is one of the best acoustic guitars to start learning to play guitar.
brilliant luck with all the learning, it is fun :)

I started on an accoustic first and reckon when I went to electric it made my life simpler. As most people have said above I would go accoustic first and practice like mad!

    Brilliant luck
