just wondering cuz a friends mom said she pay me 10 dollars to give her guitar lessons

I have a Gibson Les Paul which my dad gave me bout a year ago. I have been learning bits of songs that I like but its not getting me anywhere. I try to learn chords but just gie up with them as they seem pointless COMPARED to TAB. I practice about 30 minutes minimum a day but I am not improving. Im 16, I use medium guage plectrums and have a small beginner amp. My guitar is nicely tuned and my influences on music and lyric styles are My Chemical Romance, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Nirvana, 30 Seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin, Rage against the machine, Muse etc. Im young so my bands may differ from yours. Please, I need someone with experience on guitar to possibly give me stage lessons on what i should practice and learn so I can master my skill and technique efficiently. Because I pretty much suck at guitar at the moment, I want it to change because I hope to go in a band someday.

I’ve only been playing for about 1 year and 3 months (and self taught by internet) and i have a cheep epiphone les paul special 2, a digitech rp350, and a line 6 spider III 15 watt amp. for the first 8 months, i’ve been just learning just plain songs, and very small about chords and not a single thing about scales. at the 6th month, i started taking guitar lessons locally.(i was self teaching myself online). and for the entire summer, i was learned nearly nothing except for chords,and barr chords, and a few funk and groove riffs he made up and strumming patterns.(i didn’t learn much because i basically knew everything). i had to quit guitar lessons since school was coming back so i had to self teach myself again and then i was just trying to learn song and a few tough techniques like alternate picking, pinch harmonics, simple finger tapping. And then when i heard something about theory, i wanted to learn it soo terrible because i thought it would make me a better player but the learning curves like rhythm, time signatures and stuff like that got me aggravated at it and i basically quit theory and trying to get my technique better. and now i feel soo confident and i really feel like im not doing as brilliant as i should do. i dont know and want to know theory, improvisation, how chords are made, how to know why they are named certain names. how scales are made, how chords relate to scales, what keys are, how to know what what chords and scales fit in which key, how to improvise with all the scale and keys and chords, what are arpeggios, and how to build my technique to make it soo much better,i don’t get it when people say stuff like the 3rd, the 5th, the 7th, or the 9th chord or whatever. and the list goes on. i also don’t know if i hold the pick right because i am double jointed in my thumbs so i can hold my pick one way that is like about 45 degrees when you turn the pick counterclockwise from being Parallel to the strings(im right handed), very accurate and comfortable at slow and hard when i go quick but i can do pinch harmonics in this position brilliant. i can’t go higher than 480 bpm.(4 plucks for every beat at 120 bpm). i’ve found this other picking position that i can play a whole lot quicker with but can get sloppy if not in the perfect position or have a brilliant pick with a brilliant point and can’t do pinch harmonics well with it.(also, i usually hold this like in between 30-45 degree angle when turned clockwise from being Parallel to the strings). right now i feel lost!! my goal is to form a hard rock band by next year and be able to perform at school or where ever but i feel like i suck too much for that to happen that soon!!!!!! i can play some quick rock riffs but sometimes gets sloppy once in a while. the full songs i know are…

I am 35 years ancient. I have played since I was 16, but it has just been a leisure activity. I have never played consistently. I know nothing at all about music theory. I cannot site read music. I like heavy metal. I was wondering if I may be able to give guitar lessons and make some extra money on the side. I know all the basic chords, but again, I can’t read music. My taste in music is a small bit on the extreme side. I know enough to teach a beginner some basic chords. I do not feel proficient enough to teach anything other than beginning players. In fact, I hesitate to even teach them. Being that I have only had experience playing a small bit of metal like Metallica, am I fit to give guitar lessons at all? Please be brutally honest with me. Thank you.

I honestly dont know what stage Im at. I have a gibson and my fingers dont hurt anymore, yet I suck at guitar. I like to play mainly rock such as My chemical romance, 30 seconds to mars hopefully going on to more advanced stuff like disturbed and bullet for my valentine etc. I need some guidance and a step by step guide on what to learn and practice so I can become brilliant and increase my technique in both rythem and lead guitar playing. I want you experts to tell me how you learned. I am not able to take lessons because I dont have the money. I want to self learn but with some direction
