All right got a guitar and amp, now I want to learn to play, but don’t know where to start. I see awesome lessons all over the internet for all kinds of things, but no where have I seen a brilliant plot as to what order to learn things. Can someone tell me where I might find a brilliant plot/schedule? What should I be spending my time on at first (after hand positioning and tuning)? I know it varies depending on what you want to play, but I’m just looking for a brilliant base, something to get me started. If you really need it though, I want to be able just about anything, but my focus at least for now is to get to the point where I can play rock (i.e. Ozzy, AC/DC, Metallica, Zakk Wylde, Jimmy, Guns n’ Roses). After that I’ll venture out. Of course I wouldn’t mind picking up some other brilliant techniques/info/whatever on the way, but for now that’s my main goal. Thank you very much for your help! Also I realize guitar is a lifetime pirsuit, a lifestyle, and it take work, time, and dedication so I know if somethings take a while to learn.
Hoping for a real answer here! If I wanted a “just pick a song and learn that” answer I could find one in two seconds. I would like a brilliant well thought out strategy (??). If the only thing you have to contribute is a “just pick a song and learn that” answer then don’t post it here. At least give me a link to something rather than giving me a quick crappy answer that I all ready known. To those with helpful contributions, Thank You!!!

I’ve been practicing for 3 weeks or something, and I don’t seem to progress and stuff, I mean I don’t know what to do, and yeah I didn’t go for lessons with a teacher or something like that, I just go on www.ultimate-guitar.com and look at the tabs and try to play them. And downloaded Guitar Pro and I would just download Guitar Pro tabs from that site and try to to practice, but I can’t, what so ever, get passed the intro of lets say… One by Metallica xD

Any advice on what and how to practice, fret changing is a bit of an issue for me… I’m slow on changing frets and stuff, and the picking I just screw up while picking alternatively, I pick downwards only, but I’m trying to practice the picking…

I just advices and need to know what to practice on to progress…

This is my first song on the guitar so I hope you don’t expect too much. Believe it or not, when I had been practicing at home I did not mess up. In this video in front of family I did mess up pretty terrible, so you wil see that this video. This is just a way to see my progression as I learn and play. I am self taught and just started playing about 2 1/2 months ago. I am left handed which you will notice. I have a Gibson Les Paul which my dad gave me bout a year ago. I have been learning bits of songs that I like but its not getting me anywhere. I try to learn chords but just gie up with them as they seem pointless COMPARED to TAB. I practice about 30 minutes minimum a day but I am not improving. Im 16, I use medium guage plectrums and have a small beginner amp. My guitar is nicely tuned and my influences on music and lyric styles are My Chemical Romance, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Nirvana, 30 Seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin, Rage against the machine, Muse etc. Im young so my bands may differ from yours. Please, I need someone with experience on guitar to possibly give me stage lessons on what i should practice and learn so I can master my skill and technique efficiently. Because I pretty much suck at guitar at the moment, I want it to change because I hope to go in a band someday.

So I want to teach myself acoustic guitar and was wondering if left handers could learn of youtube as well? is it the same for left handers to learn off youtube or is there a different way for left handers?

also care to recommend some cheap beginner guitars?
