a question from a left-handed person wanting to learn to play the guitar…?
It seems the majority of sources I’ve come across say its better for a left handed person to learn to play right handed for a number of reasons: Its simpler to shop for a guitar, if someone’s passing a guitar around a campfire, its probably going to be right handed, etc. My issue is, I want to be the best guitar player I can possibly be. One person told me it depends on what style of music you will be playing; one that demands more fret dexterity or more string dexterity. I dunno. Would my ceiling of potential be lower in general by learning to play a right handed guitar as opposed to a left handed one?
Ok Gemzeta, Mindender said what Hendrix did was flip the strings and the inputs. I thought that was, essentially, what a left handed guitar was, no?

Is it difficult for a left-handed person to play a right-handed guitar?
I am left handed. I took lessons for a couple months 3 or 4 years ago, using a left-handed guitar. It felt comfortable that way. I struggled with playing and was never very brilliant, so I quit. Arranging my fingers to make chords was hard, as my fingers would always slip for some reason, and it was always very awkward. So I thought maybe using a right-handed guitar would be be better for me. Will it be hard for me to play, considering my left hand is so much stronger and quicker than my right?
If I’m left handed, do I need to buy a left-handed guitar?
I’m looking to buy a well priced acoustic guitar to teach myself how to play. I’m new (clearly) to the whole world of guitars, so I need a small help!
I went to my local pawn shop and they had a groundbreaking new acoustic guitar available for $120, which was a dream! But I’m left handed and I realized that it’s a right handed guitar. Can it be restrung to be a left handed guitar or do I have it all incorrect, and do I need to buy a guitar manufactured as left handed?
Also, do you have any recommendations on where I could buy a well priced guitar? My hopes are to spend less than $200.. after all, I don’t need an intricate guitar because I am just now learning.
Thank you for any and all helpful responses.
