you can’t learn how to play guitar from a book. You got to just keep playing like mad. find songs that you like and go to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com to find the tab of the song. thats the best way to learn. when you play songs you like, you’ll like playing even more. Delight in!

    Song books right?

Majority I’ve seen are of songs from way back (oldies). I’m pretty sure that’s not what you want.

If you want to learn from scratch, buy Teach Yourself Visually Guitar. That’s a REALLY brilliant book to learn from if you can’t afford lesssons or just want to learn how to play simple songs.

Berklee Press Modern Method, Volume 1. Go through the whole series, they’re fantastic. You’ll learn to read music in tab and standard notation right off the bat, which makes it infinitely simpler to learn advanced techniques as you go on. It contains full songs as well as practice drills for developing technique.

You save a bit of money when you buy all three books together: http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Method-Guitar-Volumes-Complete/dp/0876390114/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227140287&sr=8-3

They’re very well loved and can also be downloaded if you know where to look. Of course, there’s nothing like having a book you can bring with you wherever.
